Read for the second time - definitely worth doing. Quite difficult to follow in places, the author moves around in time and place and frequently swops between narrating in the first and third person. Rather a lot of sex, which some might find off-putting! Would also help to have some knowledge of post-1949 China, to get the most out of this book. But I really enjoyed it.
