A useful book for those that are thinking of moving abroad.

Plenty of feel good factor in this book. I was impressed by the total lack of any reference to his early career (only the blurb on the back cover gives it away). I was more impressed by the way he and his wife managed to make the transition from rural England to rural Spain - very different prospects indeed - although I suspected there was more background to all this than he gives away. It helped me to realise, once again, that I have to find my own dream. Amazing as his life is - and I was jealous at times reading about it - I know this wouldn't be the life for me. But it has caused me to think in a more constructive way what I want to work towards in life and it has challenged me to return to the optimism that has got somewhat squished of late. Life is long, after all. There's plenty of time to do everything we want to (as long as we get on with it). I enjoyed learning about some of the rural traditions in the Alpujarras region, the ancient irrigation system established by the Romans and still in use today, the alternately good-natured, wily and occasionally downright dangerous folk and the moments when the author's Englishness comes to the fore, a reminder that we too have a culture and history of which we can be proud.

A nice gentle read. Chris Stewart makes his problems entertaining, and he is humble and self-deprecating enough that the reader can enjoy his triumphs along with him.
Now passing on to another BC'er as a RABCK

Took on holiday and was so pleased that I did. Sitting in the swing seat with a glass of wine and the sun on my face, reading.

Perfect weather for the book!!

Left at holiday cottage in France, did't mean to though, will ask sister in law to bring it back so I can RABCK it.
