I put this in education, becuase it should be required reading for all high school seniors. I have know too many teens that were ready to take on the world, that find themselves trapped in low wage jobs that end up determining their future. The answer, earn knowledge. Ok, enough soap box out of me!
This read is a candid look at working poor, poverty in America. You got to love a social worker that does more than talk about it, but joins to workforce and finds out what is really going on! Somebody make her a campaign button, she needs to run for office!

I've wanted to read this for so long - thanks Cougmax!
This book lived up to all my expectations of it, which is a rare thing! I don't think most of us are aware of the great difficulties experienced by those labelled "the working poor", things many of us would not think of such as the cost of a pair of trousers in a colour demanded by the employer, when the job itself isn't secure, or the difficulty of finding housing at a reasonable cost within travelling distance of work without having much money for a deposit. This book made me angry and despairing by turns, I can't see much chance of the situation changing any time soon.

Thanks a lot for this wishlist book! The raving comments make me really want to read it!
Certainly an interesting book. It's hard to believe this is the way lots of people live in the US. I would love to find out about the situation in the Netherlands, though we don't have these low-budget hotels to live in and everything is far more bureaucratic.
Of course, the Netherlands is a lot smaller too.
On its way to the next reader!
