Until the last chapters of the book, I was completely and thoroughly hooked. This book is LONG (over 800 pages), but so well written that it's a joy to read. That said, I thought the ending was contrived and too everything-will-work-out-because-the-problems-are-dead. Maybe I'm being overly picky. It was wonderful to read about Black, White, and Latino people attempting to sift through American issues about race. It was also wonderful to read a book about a Vietnam vet that felt true. Recommended.
