Hubby bought this for me from bookcloseouts.com along with some others from authors I love.

I disliked the way this story ended so much that I had to give it just an average rating. At times this book was a little to disjointed for my taste but then other parts of it hypnotised me. I will continue to read this author as I usually really enjoy her work. Saving this for Sue or if not it is available.

Poohbear3 - thanks for saving this and bringing it for me yesterday. I FINALLY finished Up Island and am ready for my next book - this one is definitely in the running.

This is a bit of a strange one but overall I liked it. I agree with poohbear3 that it was disjointed - it was written in 6 sections, each section told by one of the characters. Some of the sections seemed to have very little to do with the others.

Among the topics in this book are the choices of absolute acceptance of or the questioning of religion and patriotism, fear and forgiveness.

Poohbear3 - can you remember what about the ending you didn't like? When I first read your comments, before I started the book, I was worried about what I'd think of the ending, but I thought it was ok. Did you think Anthony's life was tidied up too neatly?
