In the Irish town of Shancarrig, the young people carve their initials-and those of their loves- into the copper beech tree in front of the schoolhouse. But not even Father Gunn, the parish priest, who knows most of what goes on behind Shancarrig's closed doors, or Dr. Jims, the village doctor, who knows all the rest, realizes that not everything in the placid village is what it seems.
Pre-numbered label used for registration.
It took me quite awhile to really get into this book, but I'm glad I stuck with it. I really found myself pulling for the people in this book and I loved learning about their lives in Shancarrig.
Adding to my Spring Cleaning Bookbox.
Arrived in "Sunshinedreem's Spring Cleaning bookbox" - looks interesting ... :-)
Set as a series of short stories about characters in a small Irish town in the 1950s - 1970s, this book is a delightful read. Some of the stories are quite sad (for some reason the Beatles "Eleanor Rigby" kept going through my head) but others are happy. All centered around the town and the Copper Beech tree.
Am passing this on as part of an "informal book club" chain letter to a friend of a friend. Perhaps a new bookcrosser?
