Parker's work is always a good read. Most people would not be able to take on the task of writing dialogue for a famous historical figure and do it the right way, but he did.
Burke, a soldier home from Guadalcanal, takes on a job guarding the newest member of the Brooklyn Dodgers- Jackie Robinson. Along the way, the two men explore their problems, both socital and personal.
Great story.

this was a great story. This was about a man who went to war, got shot, find his wife left him when he was healing in the hospital. he becomes a body guard because he basic doesnt have any care in the world. will he ever care and love again? Read the book to find out. I can't give all it away. This book is going to wg for his birthday. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!

12/21/05: Excellent reading and a Great Birthday present. I believe this is the first novel by Robert B. Parker (other than all the Spenser series) that I have read. I intend to look for others.
