This seemed intriguing. I'll get to it one of these days!

10/10/05: Sending on to Boreal since it's on her wish list and I won't get to it for a loooong while.

Thanks, Boreal, for accepting those boxes of books from me...the ones for the Dunedin BC Convention!

Thanks so much for surprising me with this KimKerry. I really enjoyed the Eyre Affair so am looking forward to this one. Not long now till I will be able to thank you in person! The rest of your books are stowed away safely.

I think I would have been better reading this straight after reading The Eyre Affair as I had forgotten much of what happened in the intervening months. There is a lot of action in this book and many characters so it was a bit tricky keeping track of everything, not helped by the fact that pages 305-335 have been included twice which meant that pages 336-353 have been omitted altogether! I asked on the BC forums for help and someone kindly gave me a précis of the missing pages. When I figure out how I will include it here (as a spoiler) for future readers to refer to.
Someone has sent me the next book in the series so I intend to start it straight away while my memory is fresh and then I will release them both and the Eyre Affair at the convention.
Thanks again KimKerry, not long till the convention now is it!

Jack Schitt and Schitt-Hawse reunite and talk about their Mum a bit. They tell Thursday that they will reactualize Landen when they get around to it but she will never see him again because she will be their prisoner for the rest of her life. They say she'll do it for the baby and lock her in a vault without a book.
In the next chapter Miss Havisham jumps into the vault with Thursday and is angry at her because T didn't tell Miss H avbout Cardenio, but is happy to rescue T because although Thursday is a- complete and utter imbecile she is Miss H's responsibility.
Schitt-Hawse bursts in- Miss H shoots at him with a little pistol but he escapes. She then makes thursday take off her trousers- and reads them out following The Washing Instructions. Wash inside out, wash and dry separately....
Miss H tells Th that the Cardenio is a pristine Gret Library Copy.
Miss H then asks about washing instructions, Thursday gives her the make and model of the one at the house, which has an instruction book that they can be read into- right now they are trapped in the label. It tires Miss H to jump into the instruction book, where they meet a man in a boiler suit, Mr Cullards, who is happy to see them. Then they jumped to the non-fiction part of the library.
Thursday confesses everything to Miss H after being asked about the baby, which she mentioned in the vault. Miss H isn't thrilled with the idea that Th will do anything to get Landen back- for love.
Next chapter. Harris Tweed questions her and the Cheshire Cat gets her a hot pasty. Tweed is impressed with the washing label jump. She tells about Cardenio, and the roles of Volescamper and Yorrick Kaine, a young Whig politician. C. C at says he'll find a book they're in.
Harris tells Th that Mellors had a wife and family in Slough for two decades and Heathcliff worked in Hollywood for three years under the name of Buck Stallion. She says but Cardenio IS a library copy, isn't it? and he says yes- despite securuity someone stole it from under the Cat's whiskers and the Cat says... Did you say fig or...
