Interesting mystery/thriller about four Princeton students and a very mysterious book. I bought it to read on a long trip.
I thought the book was well done. The characters were more fleshed out that in "normal" thrillers. The historical mystery is interesting.
Here's the blurb from the back cover:
"Princeton. Good Friday, 1999. On the eve of graduation, two students are a hairsbreadth from solving the mysteries of the Hypnerotomachia Poliphili, a Renaissance text that has baffled scholars for centuries. Famous for its hypnotic power over those who study it, the five-hundred-year-old Hypernotomachia may finally reveal its secrets--to Tom Sullivan, whose father was obsessed with the book, and Paul Harris, whose future depends on it.
"As the deadline looms, research has stalled--until a vital clue is unearthed: a long-lost diary that may prove to be the key to deciphering the ancient text. But when a longtime student of the book is murdered just hours later, a chilling cycle of deaths and revelations begins--one that will force Tom and Paul, with their two roommates, into a fiery drama spun from a book whose power and meaning have long been misunderstood..."
Since I noticed that this was on many wish lists, this is going to be a bookray!

Returning from summer holidays I found my mail box filled with books, yyyeeeeaaaaahhhhhh! This one was there, thanks FortyToo! It will be the first on my nightstand.
I’ve just finished reading it, 04:45 am, and I'm not sleepy!
What can I say? I’ve loved it! This a great book that leaves me wondering why doesn’t it had the same success has the “da Vinci Code” had, at least not here in Portugal where it’s hard find the Portuguese translation and where everybody talks about the Dan Brown’s book and almost anyone heard anything about this one.
I mean the “da Vinci Code” is a lousy book and this is a great one!
Well, this is how I feel about it.
FortyToo I thank you for sharing this great book with me.

Starts off amazingly poorly, it's all "Look at us we're at Princeton are all gorgeous and clever, and we all love one another very much, look at how both clever and dangerous we are". But it gets better, probably worth sticking with, the Hypnerotomachia being almost the sole interest of the book.

RELEASE NOTES:
Received today, which was a pleasant surprise because I forgot it was coming! Unfortunately, I received another bookring book also today, so they'll have to fight over which gets first dibs. Either way, I'll do my best to get to it ASAP!
Finally finished last night. Thanks, everyone, for being patient. I have mixed feelings about this book. I thought the book description sounded great and I was anxious to dig in. And being one who really enjoyed the DaVinci Code, I thought this sounded like it might be a similar read. There were similarities -- the historical and somewhat controversial aspect, with some mystery and puzzle-solving thrown in. The potential was there, but I just didn't feel satisfied when all was said and done. Although I enjoy getting to know the characters, I thought in this case, some of this was unnecessary and not necessarily relevent to the storyline. I enjoyed the book overall, but don't think it quite lived up to its potential. Thanks, FortyToo, for sharing! :')
I will likely be posting this later today to LastMango!

This arrived in the mail today. Thank goodness I'm last in the bookray because I have several books ahead of it....I would hate to be holding anyone up. Interesting to read the mixed reviews of those before me.
I enjoyed this book but found that it dragged a bit. Interesting plot.
Mailed today to caligula03 as part of a relay.

The book is here. Thank you. :)
Reserved for jennymidget.
Reminds me of a cross between A Separate Peace and The da Vinci Code. There's also a hint of The Dante Club too. I thought it interesting to see it crossing paths too with Immortal by Traci Slatton.

Really enjoyed this book. Two students at Princeton are on the verge of solving an ancient mystery hidden in a book written during the Renaissance in Italy when a string of murders leads them to realise the dangersthey are in. A well written mystery story, much better than the Da Vinci Code.
I caught this from Bruce at Bookmooch and am releasing it back there.
