From the back cover:

"A young girl is perched on the cold chrome of yet another doctor's examining table, missing yet another day of school. Just twelve, she's tall, skinny and weak. Her mother, on the other hand, seems curiously excited. She's about to suggest open heart surgery on her child to 'get to the bottom of this'. She checks her teeth for lipstick and, as the doctor enters, shoots the girl a warning glance. This child will not ruin her plans.

From early childhood, Julie Gregory was continually X-rayed, medicated and operated on in the vain pursuit of an illness that was created in her mother's mind: Munchausen by Proxy, the world's most hidden and dangerous form of child abuse. 'Sickened' is her story."

This book will be released at the Reading meeting on 19 July 2005.

I've picked this up & put it down again so many times that I decided it was actually time to take it home & read it at last!

Journal Entry 3 by Kleptokitty on Thursday, February 16, 2006
I actually read this a few weeks ago, & can't think a) why I haven't journalled it previously, & b) what on earth I've done with the book! I suspect I've left it in England, so if anyone is requesting it please be prepared to wait.

This is a variation of the Dave Peltzer 'Child Called It' theme. I'm afraid I was neither enthralled nor shocked by it, which I think is probably a sad reflection on how many of these type of books I've read over the past few years. I found the writing style terribly flat, which probably didn't endear it to me any either.

A bit of a disappointment, but you never know till you try!
