A slight return to form for Harry Bosch after the self pitying "The Narrows". A half decent story contuing on some of the themes from the Narrows, cold cases etc. Indeed it mentions the US tv show of that name, which strangely enough Harry has no time for. Strange because he got his nice house on Mulholland from being an advisor to a film earlier in his career, so Michael Connelly has turn Harry into a forgetful grumpy old man.

Unlike some in the series, you don't really have to know too much of the back story to get into this as just enough is re-hased for you. Pretty obvious who the villian is though, even if it took Harry 100 pages more to solve.

Not his best by any means, read "The Poet" for that, but decent enough
