Amazon.co.uk Review
Fans will recognise Sebastian Faulks' focus on characterisation, historical context and the emotional power of his narrative in his new novel, "On Green Dolphin Street". Yet, in tone and setting, the story of one woman's attempt to face down death in the Cold War years marks a new departure for this bestselling novelist.

It's 1959 and the presidential battle between Kennedy and Nixon is heating up. Just as the country stands between two men so does Mary van der Linden, the wife of a British embassy employee in Washington and lover of political newspaper reporter Frank Renzo. All three are damaged by their experiences of war; death and decay are everywhere: through the men's memory of war, Mary's dying mother, van der Linden's declining health and the readers' knowledge that in only a few short years Kennedy will be dead and Nixon disgraced.

Happy Reading!

Collected with pleasure from Scotsbookie who specially brought this book to the BCUK UnConvention for me.
Taking the book with us on holiday in Ploumanac'h, Brittany, where I expect to have lots of time to read.

Thanks very much ScotsBookie for taking the trouble to bring this for me.
What a superb weekend. Really enjoyed meeting you and hope it won't be too long before we meet again.
What about coming to Wellington New Zealand for our NZ Convention 16 - 18 Feb 2007? Literally thousands of people of Scottish descent inNZ.

Cannot believe that this book lay buried at the bottom of Mt TBR for so long. My husband found it first, read it and recommended it to me.
I've only scored it 7 because there were times when I became slightly dissatisfied with it partly because I've never like war stories. Head in the sand approach I guess but there it is. MrFan encouraged me to continue and I'm pleased I did.
Mary and Frank are unforgettable in their own ways both being recognizeable types. I couldn't warm to Charles at all.
I did like the descriptions of tourist wanderings in New York. Despite only ever spending five days in that city it brought back vivid memories, particularly the movement of racks of completed clothes from delivery truck to stores - I'd forgotten that but it became quite clear once again.
As the tale moved toward its conclusion, given Mary and Frank's characters my romantic notions were tested.
IMHO the cover design did not speak to me at all - perhaps it referred to something I skipped.
