I read the first chapters of this book a while ago, as a part of the www.dearreader.com email-bookclub subscription.
I thought it was a really fascinating topic and put the book on my wishlist.
A couple of days ago I decided to order it from Amazon and here it is!

I finished the book last night and I cried and fell asleep on a quite moist pillow! The book was great!

It is now reserved for Sunneschii, I will hand it over to her in September in Cologne!

!!!!! --------CONTAINS SPOILERS-------------- !!!!

The book was a good read. The topic was interesting, and up-to-date. But there are a few things I didn't like in the book. One was that I think, Jodi Picoult exaggerated a bit. It wasn't necessary for the greatness of the story that Jesse is the arsonist, for example. But the major point I didn't like in the book was that Jodi Picoult left an open end. All her characters are good. They might not act well all the time, but they are good and make no mistakes that hurt somebody. Jesse, as an arsonist, doesn't kill anybody (no, he could save the homeless person). Anna doesn't have to make a proper decision if she wants to donate a kidney or not (well, it looks as if she would), if she follows Kates wish or not. No, Anna just dies, and because she died, somebody has gone, and so Kate doesn't have to die. Please. Do we really have to force a happy end?

Beautiful book. I loved the story very much. The dilemma the poor girl is in, whether to save her sister or herself, how to show her love by withdrawing herself from the family's demands, and even then retain some sense of being.....a very profound plot written by an amazing author. I loved every character in the book, except didnt really see any sense in Jesse being an Arsonist...what significance did it have to Kate's illness and the whole plot in general?? A bit unnecessary, i think.
However, this book is a must read for everyone and I shall be passing it on to the free world pretty soon. Thanks for sharing with me, Sunneschii
