A much, much better read than I had anticipated. This is a mystery set in 1920s Paris, which worried me a bit because of past experiences I've had with "period" novels. But this is one of those stories that could have been set in any era at all. Very vibrant characters, a surprising and satisfying climax, and the split narrative the author uses is a nice touch. It also features appearances by several celebrities of the era, among them Pablo Picasso, Gertrude Stein and Ernest Hemingway ("Call me Ernie."), A very good variation on the classic "Locked room" mystery.
