Palahniuk at its best. A quick read and as messed up a yarn as he can spin. One of my favs for sure.

I just returned from vacation and this book was waiting for me, along with two other bookrings. I will read it as soon as I can and get it moving again. I've enjoyed the other Palahniuk books I've read, so I'm really looking forward to reading this.

Journal Entry 11 by Lpree from Omaha, Nebraska USA on Wednesday, September 28, 2005
I finished this several days ago, but am only just getting a chance to post. Anyway, I've read a couple of other Palahniuk books. Throughout this book, I kept thinking it wasn't as good as the others I'd read, but the ending totally made the book. I had ideas on how it would turn out, and was completely wrong. Anyway, I'm glad I read this - thanks for starting this ring!

I hope to mail this out over the weekend!

This book arrived yesterday in the mail.
I look forward to reading it!

Journal Entry 14 by Piper79 from Herndon, Virginia USA on Tuesday, February 21, 2006
Agreed, not the best one I've read yet, but not his worst. My favorite so far is Diary and least favorite is Lullaby.
This book was utterly bizarre (as usual) and not boring. However, I found myself not too invested in this story or the characters as I am in some of his books.
I will probably mail this one out this weekend.

Sorry it's taken me so long to get to this. I just read my first Margaret Atwood novel before this and it took me a *lot* longer than I expected -- but it was worth it.

I wish I could say that about Palahniuk. I've already read Choke and Lullaby and I'm just now realising that I rather don't like him. I started reading this yesterday and am already past chapter 12 -- thankfully he's a quick read -- and I've come to the decision that all his main characters sound exactly the same, just like Chuck Palahniuk. Which really makes the main character here, a woman, sound completely unbelievable. They've all got the same Palahniuk jaded wit and soundbytes. And oh, man, does this dude have more soundbytes than Fox News.

Give me soundbytes.

Flash.

Give me wit.

Flash.

Give me jadedness.

Flash.

Just call me Chuck Who Writes Badly.

His books are like car crashes and I can't take myself away once I start reading. So I'll finish it and have it in the mail to the next reader by Monday.

Journal Entry 22 by juniebug from Marcus, Iowa USA on Sunday, June 25, 2006
I finished this last night. This is the first Palahniuk I've ever read, so I don't have any insights on comparing this other works. I'm also having kind of a hard time deciding if I like this or not... I guess I can put it this way - I like the storyline, I like the plot, I really liked the twist, I didn't like the characters, and I didn't like the writing style. To be fair, the author did warn me very early on that this is not a story that follows a time-line with "and then, and then, and then." I didn't realize at that point just how convoluted things could get.

Thanks for including me in this ring! I can honestly say that without BCing, this is one book I would have never picked up on my own. I'll be PMing you, NoUse, to get your address so this book can complete its journey.
