This book remained quite some time on my "mount TBR". But now I took it to the island and couldn´t stop reading. This is the incredible story of an australian man who was a boy and youg man a hundred years ago. Quite a story! He had a hard life in his early years, working like a grown man when still only a boy. And he was always on the move, travelling from here to there, sometimes only a few miles, other times hundreds of miles, just to get a job. It¨s human. It´s history. It´s about hard work. It´s about travel - in some ways. And it´s also about western Australia, the landscapes, the nature and the hard life so many years ago. And much more of course! Thanks a lot kirst040!

Thank you, book-man-8! A very nice surprise to start the new year right. I can always count on you to broaden my horizons, and I've never been disappointed yet! I've got a bookring book to get to first, but this sounds like I'll be diving right into it next!
What a fantastic story of one man's life in turn-of-the-century Australia. The way he was treated as a boy could have turned him into a hard, hate-filled man, but he rises above his treatment, and survives poverty, no education, the front lines at Gallipoli, and the Depression. He lived what was indeed a fortunate life.
This was a gentle, extraordinary, and moving book.
Thank you so much for sharing this with me, book-man-8!
