State of the Union : A Thriller

This is the first time I read a book by Brad Thor. I didn't realize that I was picking up a book that was (who knows which #) in a larger series. The references to past escapades and adventures was the tell. Unfortunately, the references were just noise in the book to me since they had no meaning and were not fleshed out to provide me substance.
Was I rooting for Scot? Kinda. Seemed like he was a bit thick in the head. For someone who is a master of many trades, tough to kill, can work through pain...pick up a Dirk Pitt story, he knows how to toss off witty comments. Scot's tend to make me cringe.
Overall, a book for an airplane read. Leave it on the plane if you don't finish it before you land.
