Carl Hiaasin is one of my favorite authors and this book brings back Mick Stranahan, the lead character from my favorite Hiaasin book, Skin Tight.

I wasn't as engaged by this book as I had been by several of his previous books, though part of that may have been because I was unable to sit down and read large amounts at a time, due to my schedule. One of Hiaasin's talents is creating oddball characters with physical and mental/emotional quirks that, while highly unrealistic, cause you to really care about that character. This book is no exception as a hairy behemoth named Tool is a quite interesting and entertaining character. Unfortunately, Tool was the only character that I really cared about in this book.

Like his other books, Hiaasin also includes an ecological message about the ecosystem of Florida. I like the way he weaves his concerns into the story, educating while entertaining at the same time.

For anyone who finds this book, sorry, but my mastiff got hold of it one morning. The damage is just cosmetic, it doesn't interfere with the reading in any way.
