This is definitely not my favorite of his books. It addresses, to me, some problems that are in our society today, the importance of the athletes in HS to the detriment of the rest of the students. I am a football fan but not of the arrogance that goes with the "heroes" that play. The story is of 30 years of kids that played for this one coach in a small town. The coach is dying and they all have to come to grips with lessons that he taught. Many of them were good lessons but taught in a way that was too harsh for many.
