Editorial Reviews

From AudioFile
The second Rumpole collection, published in 1979, gives listeners a chance to catch up on the doings at 3 Equity Court. The Erskine-Browns are just beginning their troubled marriage, and Guthrie Featherstone seeks the judgeship that will give Horace Rumpole grief in later installments. The last story, "Rumpole and the Age of Retirement," sounds deceptively like a finale to Rumpole's career, but it's no secret that his saga continues. Bill Wallis works too hard to sound like Leo McKern, the late actor identified with Rumpole, but his portrayal gains strength with familiarity. His handling of dialogue, particularly Rumpole's parrying with a client in "Rumpole and the Showfolk," is deft. Well read by Leo McKern, however, I found that his sonorous voice tended to make me lose focus!

Well goodness, I somehow never registered this audiobook. It has been in my stash for quite awhile. Anyway, I finally got around to listening to this cassette recording. Good British humor and storytelling as the listener follows Horace Rumpole in three short stories. I love that he refers to his wife as “she who must be obeyed”.

WILD RELEASE NOTES:

There's a medical library at Healthpark hospital that sells donated books for a good cause.

Though I can't really remember what that cause is at the moment. Lol

At any rate, I dropped this off there. I figured it would be likely to find a new reader. ;)
