2 journalers for this copy...

Wahoo! I've been looking for this book ever since I saw it mentioned on the QueerHorror.com site [a very entertaining site that lists all manner of horror books and movies that include GLBT characters or themes]. The book's out of print and until recently all the copies I saw were very pricey, but then this one turned up - and now it's mine!!! Won't know until I've read it whether it's going to be a keeper or not, but I just had to register it.
[Side note for anyone else who might be seeking a copy of this book; for some reason many of the listings have the author's name as "Roger Emerson," which could confuse the search.]

This poor book's been waiting on my TBR shelf for a looooong time; good thing the Chills&Spills release challenge finally motivated me to read it!
Given how hard it was to find, I'd hoped for something a bit more unusual in the story itself; turns out it's a relatively straightforward werewolf story, unusual mainly for the fact that all the main characters are gay. There are some nice permutations of relationships - recent ex-lovers/still friends, current lovers with one who's getting restless, that kind of thing - and the werewolf theme itself is of the old-school "really, truly monsters" model instead of the sparkly/friendly werewolves of Recent Books Which Shall Not Be Named. [OK, those werewolves don't sparkle, but still. {grin}] And there are some good chills and fears along the way.

*** Released as part of Jare's 2010 Chills & Spills Release Challenge; the March theme includes woodland creatures and legends - including werewolves, which certainly makes this one qualify! ***

This was a really fun story, although there wasn't much to set it apart from your typical werewolf story. Sure, we had gay characters, some steamy romance, but the basic plot was pretty predictable. Not to say the story was bad, just nothing that jumped out and grabbed you. That being said, I breezed through this and did really enjoy the time spent with Edmonson's critters!
