This book is a departure for William Gibson. It's not his usual futuristic cyberpunk style, but rather a book set right in the here and now. It's got Gibson's standard clipped prose and peculiar plot, but he has such a way with words that it's an irresistable read.

In a post-9/11 world, the present is as unpredictable as any future...
Paid to predict the hottest trends, Cayce Pollard is in London to evaluate the redesign of a famous corporate logo when she's offered a different assignment: find the creator of the obscure, enigmatic video clips being uploaded to the Internet - footage that is generating massive underground buzz worldwide.
Still haunted by the memory of her missing father - a Cold War security guru who disappeared in downtown Manhattan on the morning of September 11, 2001 - Cayce is soon traveling through parallel universes of marketing,
globalization, and terror, heading always for the still point where the three converge. From London to Tokyo to Moscow, she follows the implications of a secret as disturbing-and compelling-as the twenty-first century promises to be.

Arrived safely in Alabama today, will journal again when read. Thanks!
Intriguing. Characterizations are . . . the plot is . . . well, this book is difficult for me to review. I was intrigued by it, the story and the characters were so unusual to me. Cayce, the footage fetish, Bigend, Parkaboy, it was quite unusual. I'm glad to have read it. Thanks, midwinter!
Will get off to next reader within a few days. Update: mailed to retc in LA on 7/7/05.

RELEASE NOTES:
Finally managed to mail this one out. I thoroughly enjoyed this book & appreciate the patience in getting it moving. It evacuated New Orleans with me. It went to Many, LA, then to Dallas, TX, then to Houston, TX, then to Thibodaux, LA where I finally finished it probably weeks ago. Very fun book. I will never look at the Michelan Man in the same way again.

This book was not at all what I thought it was going to be. It just wasn't meant for me. I will pass it on as soon as I get the next address.

Journal Entry 8 by Mundoo from Hindmarsh Island, South Australia Australia on Saturday, April 1, 2006
I had a slow start to reading this book and nearly gave up at one point. But I continued and the story picked up and started to make sense and gather momentum. There were a lot of threads/sub-plots happening instead of the one main thread of the internet fragment films. (I wonder how people stumble on these sorts of things?) I did get a bit peeved with all the brand/less description of clothes and shoes etc. As someone who really doesn't have a clue as to brands (I buy on price) and what is in or out a lot of these descriptions irritated me more than caused recognition. I also thought the ending was lame and rushed and not fleshed out.
