Journal Entry 1 by nienkeg from Haarlem, Noord-Holland Netherlands on Monday, June 13, 2005
Andrea Sachs, a small-town girl fresh out of college, lands the job "a million girls would die for." Hired as the assistant to Miranda Priestly, the high-profile, fabulously succesful editor of Runway magazine, Andrea finds herself in an office that shouts Prada! Armani! Versace! at every turn, a world populated by impossibly thin, heart-wrenchingly stylish women and beautiful men clad in fine-ribbed turtlenecks and tight leather pants that show off their lifelong dedication to the gym. With breathtaking ease, Miranda can turn each and every one of these hip sophisticates into a scared whimpering child.
The Devil Wears Prada gives a rich and hilarious new meaning to plaints about "The Boss from Hell". Narrated in Andrea's smart, refreshingly disarming voice, it traces a deep, dark, develish view of life at the top only hinted at in gossip columns and over Cosmopolitans at the trendiest cocktail parties.
From sending the latest, not-yet-in-stores Harry Potter to Miranda's children in Paris by private jet, to locating an unnamed antiques store where Miranda had at some point admired a vintage dresser, to serving lattes to Miranda at precisely the piping hot temperature she prefers, Andrea is sorely tested each and every day- and often late into the night- with orders barked over the phone. She puts up with it all by keeping her eyes on the prize: a recommendation from Miranda that will get Andrea a top job at any magazine of her choosing. As things escalate from the merely unacceptable to the downright outrageous, however, Andrea begins to realize that the job a million girls would die for, may just kill her. And even if she survives, she has to decide whether or not it's worth the price of her soul.

I've heard lots of stories about this book, and I think that that's why I wasn't really enthousiastic about it.
It's fun to read though..

Journal Entry 3 by dutch-flybabe from Lent (gem. Nijmegen), Gelderland Netherlands on Saturday, June 25, 2005
I finished this book today. Just in time to give it to TinyBear at the Castricum meeting tomorrow in Starndpaviljoen de Albatros :-)

THIS JOURNAL ENTRY CONTAINS A SPOILER!
This book is very close to chicklit I thought, but not quite. At first I thought this was going to be another book about some woman whining about her life, but instead I was drawn into the story and sympathetic with Andrea and her boss from hell. I was so proud of her when she finally told Miranda to get lost and quit her job! 11 months too late as far as I'm concerned, but I did enjoy all the things Andrea did to get back at Miranda, especially making her eat of 'a filthy plate' and charging coffee to give to homeless people :-)
It sure took me long enough to read this book which is pretty unusual for me, but I enjoyed it. Thanks for ringing this book Nienkeg!

caught in my very very special castricum bookbox, made for me by dettie...on the mount TBR!

Journal Entry 6 by TinyBear from Almere , Flevoland Netherlands on Monday, August 8, 2005
Although at first I was wondering why I kept on reading this silly book...it finally captured me and made me laugh about the persons involved. How nicely put was the fashionmagazine and her deviishy editor, by her assistent...till the end it has given me some really nice reading time! Thanks for sharing nienkeg!

So now it's finally ready for sending to YvonneP!

Journal Entry 7 by TinyBear from Almere , Flevoland Netherlands on Tuesday, August 9, 2005
Going in the mail to YvonneP, the next reader in this ring to enjoy this book! Have fun Yvonne!

Journal Entry 8 by yvonnep from Amsterdam, Noord-Holland Netherlands on Wednesday, September 14, 2005
Oh, it seemed to be standard procedure: The devil wears Prada is a difficult book to get into. A sharp editor could have give it more speed. But somewhere in between...yes... I liked the book. But, I didn't have the slightest idea what was so special about a Fendi-bag or a... this or that pair of shoes, robe or worse. Because I'm not into fashion, I'm into practical clothes that look nice. And then, something happened. I really needed to know how a Fendi-bag looked like. Or Manolo shoes. And I wanted to know what the clothes looked like from designers I only knew because of their perfumes. I prefer their perfumes. So, I bought an obscure magazine - the Glamour - to teach me. It felt like buying porn. I'm sorry. The Devil wears Prada gave me this double experience. I liked it.

Journal Entry 9 by serendipity- from Wateringen, Zuid-Holland Netherlands on Saturday, September 17, 2005
Received this book by mail today. Thank you, Yvonnep for the nice card!

Journal Entry 10 by serendipity- from Wateringen, Zuid-Holland Netherlands on Saturday, October 1, 2005
OK, I'll admit it..... I LOVE NEW CLOTHES! I love how they smell, I love the way they fit into my closet (sorted by color, ofcourse) and I really love to wear them.

But how can it be fun when everyone is wearing the same stylish outfits?? How can you appreciate your new wardrobe when you can get the everything for free? How can you survive when you have to wear high heels while you're working? Yuk!

At first this story kept going on and on about the mean behaviour of Andy's boss Miranda and designer clothes. It became more interesting when Christian showed up, Alex lost his patience and Lily developed a new habit.

I really enjoyed this book. It was fun!

Today I sent the book to Enitnaj

Journal Entry 12 by wingEnitnajwing from Tilburg, Noord-Brabant Netherlands on Monday, October 3, 2005
Today I found this book on my doormat...always nice to receive BOOKS by mail instead of BILLS...(and especially when there's a nice card and bookmark included as well!)

Hope to be able to read it soon!Looking forward to it!

Journal Entry 13 by wingEnitnajwing from Tilburg, Noord-Brabant Netherlands on Monday, October 10, 2005
It took some time to get into it, especially since I'm not really into fashion. I only know all those brands because I used to watch "Sex and the City"...
But while reading I suddenly noticed myself looking at my clothes, trying to find the most stylish outfits and wearing heals to work :-)
Well, actually, I already wore heals to work often... But anyway, I really got into it!
And I was so curious to wether or not Andrea would make it through her year or not, that the last pages literally kept me reading untill late night!

So now I'm waiting for the adress of Mumtotwins, so I can send the book traveling again!

I loved the book. It's outrageous and over the top, but makes for good reading.

I've read that there is a film being made based on this book starring Meryl Streep as Miranda Priestly. I wonder whether it will as enjoyable as the book...

On to Redfloor!

Ga het z.s.m. lezen. Lijkt mij een heerlijk boek

Journal Entry 19 by redfloor from Amersfoort, Utrecht Netherlands on Wednesday, November 23, 2005

Journal Entry 20 by prawnie from Haarlem, Noord-Holland Netherlands on Sunday, November 27, 2005
Thank you Redfloor for sending this book to me. Have started reading it and it's amusing and funny. denk dat het voor kerst wel uit is ;)

Journal Entry 21 by prawnie from Haarlem, Noord-Holland Netherlands on Tuesday, December 6, 2005
Great in it's genre. Loved to read about that whole fashion world. I'm sending it on to Annetov.

Journal Entry 22 by AnnevO from Rotterdam, Zuid-Holland Netherlands on Monday, December 12, 2005
Quite a surprise to find this book in the letterbox today! I wasn't expecting it yet, and wasn't expecting to get books from people who actually have my address already.

Thanks for creating the ring NienkeG. Are there any other partcipants, or should I return the book to you (probably in January)

Journal Entry 23 by AnnevO from Rotterdam, Zuid-Holland Netherlands on Sunday, December 18, 2005
I loved this book! I like the more complex chick-lit like books, and the second half of this book surely worked for me. I knew a bit about the fashion industry through my little sister and knew most labels because I used to watch "Sex and the City", so I could understand the fuzz about ankle high Manolo's and such. And I enjoyed the detailed description of Andy's naughty streaks, like the coffees and the cigarettes.

The take home message from this book: Don't let your work (and/or employer) take over your life!

This book will be send to Barbje by a very special messenger today.

Journal Entry 24 by wingBarbjewing from Gouda, Zuid-Holland Netherlands on Sunday, December 18, 2005
No messenger, I personally went to get it! :-) It's on top of the 'chicklit Mt. TBR'. :-)

Journal Entry 25 by wingBarbjewing from Gouda, Zuid-Holland Netherlands on Friday, January 27, 2006
It took me a while to 'get into the story', but like AnnevO, the second half did it for me. I just couldn't wait until she would finally open up her eyes :-) A good read!

Powerhouse

Journal Entry 26 by powerhouse from Culemborg, Gelderland Netherlands on Tuesday, January 31, 2006
Thank you for sharing this one. Glad I'm last, although I'm in the mood for chicklit, it might overhaul Secretum and Imprimatur and land on top of Mt. TBR.

Journal Entry 27 by powerhouse from Culemborg, Gelderland Netherlands on Thursday, February 23, 2006
Well, I read it though not all of it, it's the kind of book you can read diagonally and still know everything. It was my 2nd chicklit book but I liked Shopaholic & sister better because it was hilariously silly. There's nothing hilarious in this book, to my disappointment. Since I'm last it will go travel to Nienke. Thanks for the experience.

Journal Entry 30 by Nandaaah from Pijnacker, Zuid-Holland Netherlands on Wednesday, May 9, 2007

Journal Entry 31 by Catootje from Maastricht, Limburg Netherlands on Saturday, May 12, 2007

Journal Entry 35 by eowyn-unquendor from Rotterdam, Zuid-Holland Netherlands on Friday, August 31, 2007
Heerlijk boek.

I took this book with me from the obcz gouda, because I've decided, after a talk with my sister in law, that it might be a good idea to read some chicklit in english.

Edit: I can not get into this book. I think Andrea is rather stupid to think that this job makes her future dream come true. I did not finish the book because I did not like reading it. Perhaps I shall read the translation somewhere in the future. For now, the book goes back to the obcz gouda.
