Had a flick through this but I don't think it's something I'd read in the near future so am going to let it continue its journey

I decided to go back to this and read it and I'm glad I did, it was definitely one of the better Winterson books I've read, covering passion in different forms.

This is now going out on a ray. Usual rules apply. Please journal when you receive the book and again when you've finished. Please try to pass it on within 4 weeks, but if this is going to be a problem, just let me know, it's not a strict deadline by any means.

I really enjoyed The Passion, in fact I preferred it to Winterton''s more famous book, Oranges Are Not The Only Fruit, the only other of hers I''ve read.

The Passion is a random and obscure tale set in the era of Napoleon and divided into just four short chapters. Initially we meet Henri, a Frenchmen set to invade Britain amongst Napoleon''s army. Then we head to Venice and meet the daughter of a boatman,, red haired and passionate, Villanelle. Having read these two chapters I thought this was a book of short stories but then in Chapter Three the lives of the two main characters become entangled in a clever and fascinating plot, that is both poetic and blunt.

I highly recommend The Passion and shall certainly be keeping an eye out for her other books.

I will pass on as soon as I can.

As always with Jeanette Winterson this book was beautifully written. An exploration of passion and survival in all its forms. Have contacted Suedo for an address and will get it posted as soon as I can.

This has been a great read, and a good story. I gave up on another of her books so was glad thia one was more accessible.
Not sure if it helped that I had read war and peace, so the background was not a total mystery to me.I have PMed the next in line, but won't be back home until the weekend to post it.

Hi Suedo and folks: just realised this really needs to be a Ring, not a Ray, so please put me on the bottom of that list, and return. Please don't WR!!

Thank you! It's a fabulous read: one of my all-time favourite books.

Journal Entry 16 by suedo from Redditch, Worcestershire United Kingdom on Sunday, February 3, 2008
Have rec an address so am sending it on when I can get to the post office.
bb012c3442 - do you mean you want the book back at the end, or just to re-read it?
The people that signed up for the ray may not be able to post it back from South Africa, and probably did not expect to when they signed up for this RAY. Since this book was taken at the meet up, you would normally only expect to get it back if you asked for that when you brought it to the meet.
If there are any other of your books that I have that you want back, can you let me know ASAP so I don't WR them.

cheers

Sue

Hello All Who Might Be Reading

Stubee (on the list for the um, Ray) would like to know where the book is now. Anyone know? And can whoever has it, send it on to stubee when they've read it, on the understanding that it comes back to me after that.

Sorry for the confusion. This shudda been a Ring. Ta. :)
