I sat and read this in a couple of days - all 590 pages of it. An interesting and intricate plot, but it felt about 200 pages too long.
Although I was much more drawn into this novel than I was into Barbara Vine's "The Blood Doctor", begun and and abandoned a couple of days ago, I still found myself skimming parts of it while hoping that I wasn't missing anything vital in doing so.
I'd have scored this a point or two higher I think if it had been shorter and tauter.

RELEASE NOTES:
I picked this up at today's lunchtime meet. The Mothership is off on holiday to Portugal this week so this book might be travelling with her.
A change of plan for this book. The Mothership didn''t have time to read this on holiday so it''s coming with me on a day trip to Edinburgh.
