Using up the pre-registered labels I discovered I still had when the system changed over. I bought this one at the local Friends of the Library book sale back in the spring. I think this copy got wet at some point, as the pages look a bit puckered, but still quite readable.
A truly well written and engaging historical mystery, taking place in a isolated monestary in the period when Henry VIII broke from the Church of England.

This was a great historical mystery taking place during the reign of Henry VIII when he and Thomas Cromwell were disolving the monastery's throughout the country.
Cromwell has sent 2 men to the monastery in Scarnsea to try and convince the Abbott to surrender but one of them is killed so Dr. Matthew Shardrake is sent to investigate the killing and to continue to work on the Abbott. It seems that the murder is not all that is going on at the monastery and Shardrake is pulled in several different directions as he works the clues.
I really enjoyed this book and got my hubby to read it as well and he gave it a thumbs up also. I will be looking for more by this author.
