I gave this book a mid-level rating even though it is part of my permanent collection. The rating reflects more my lack of information rather than the author's skill. I'm familiar with the area and much of the culture described in this English translation. However, the character interplay and format the drama takes bears more reading and some discussing with my Japanese friends.

This book was passed on to me some time ago. Having reached a point where I stand in front of my bookshelf and am overwhelmed with choices, I have just started reading them in order through the stacks. :)

Love. So totally bizarre, dramatic, wry, and truly compelling. Highly recommended read, whether you are familiar with Japan or Japanese society or not.
