Book was loaned to me by fellow BX-er as it was one of our Readers Circle selections.
Artemis Fowl, a 12 year old genius, has one goal in mind - to recover his family's fortune in gold stolen by fairies. In order to accomplish this, he decides to kidnap one of them, Holly Short. Written for young teens, this book also appeals to most adults as well. Artemis comes across as a young "James Bond" type character. Definitely fantasy with a bit of humor thrown in. I did not attempt to "break the code" and I doubt if I will go out of my way to read the rest of the series. For some reason or another, I did not find the book to be the easy read it should have been.

I don't think this book is as good as the Harry Potter series. This book is definitely for children and young adults, whereas the Potter books are for a more mature audience.

My wife brought this one back from the book club meeting. I am bumping it up to the top of my list to read. I really like the premise of this book. As I have been called a "Purist" I will read and then release this volume.
