I finished this book over a week ago but I had to detach myself from the story before I could write about it.
Fairly early on in the book I decided that I was Clare and Pete was my Henry. So, needless to say, I was crying like a baby for a lot of this story :P
I just loved this book. I seriously would have to say that it is one of the best I've read in years. I don't typically go for "romance novels" but with the twist of time travel, I was able to overcome my initial bias and distaste for the genre and enjoy the story for what it was.
I was hopelessly lost when I first started reading and was trying to fully understand how Henry was time travelling. Only after I made a conscious effort to shut off the part of my brain that over-analyses everything, I was able to really get into it. I think I "got it" in the end though :)
I don't think I'll be forgetting this story for a while, and I've already recommended it to all my friends as a must-read.

On a side-note: I'm now convinced all Jasons are perverted a**holes :P

Overall impression - Extremely impressed. I especially love the different Henry/Clare viewpoints. Big thumbs up from me!!!

Henry and Clare are going on a little trip tomorrow to visit a friend. I hope her wish list is up to date :)

I couldn't imagine what I'd received when I walked up to the house, this afternoon, and saw a big, white package peeking out of my mailbox. When I saw the package was from Ptassie I was really intrigued and rushed into the house to tear open my treasure!
What a lovely surprise to find one of my wish list books, "The Time Traveler's Wife", inside with a beautiful postcard tucked in as a bookmark. The book was wholly unexpected and, therefore, completely perfect.
You brought tears to my eyes, Ptassie. Thank you so much for thinking of me and sending me a 'hug' via the post office; I can't begin to tell you how much that means. I'm going to read this slowly, savor every moment and then pass it on to someone special.

Thank you, thank you, thank you {{{{{{{Ptassie}}}}}}}}}!!!!

Spedbug has passed this on to me. I've only read the prologue but thus far, it seems interesting. Will journal again when finished ...

Finally, finished reading this!! I was sidetracked by the Half Blood Prince and Lemony Snicket along the way ...
For the most part, I enjoyed this book. The concept was new, the pacing was interesting. There were some amusing as well as heart-wrenching twists and turns. It took a bit of reading to get used to -- even knowing what the book was about from the Prologue didn't prevent confusion at first. Towards the end, I *did* start speed reading - maybe the last 100 pages or so - because the author was starting to lose me with too much detail ... or maybe I was just as weary of the time travel as Henry.

Now that it's finished, I'll give it back to Sped, who can update the status and pass it on to the next person on her list ...

Thanks, Ptassie, for sending this to Sped. I enjoyed being in the line of readers!

Good book. A little hard to follow at times but I would recommend it as a read.

I read this book several years ago, as part of a bookring, and it remains one of my favorite books. I tell people that this is the most romantic book I've ever read. This isn't a trashy romance novel with a science fiction twist. This is love story about a couple who are deeply connected to each other, but who have to suffer through terrible hardships. With its changing points-of-view and a time line that is anything but linear, it takes some effort to understand how the novel is constructed, but the emotional impact of the story is well worth the effort.

When I saw this on the Book Buffet at the 2007 BookCrossing Convention in Charleston, SC, I just had to pick it up. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with it, but I have a powerful need to share this book...

I picked this up today at our BookCrossing meeting at Panera Bread in Waldorf, MD. My TBR pile isn't exactly hurting for new additions, but it came highly recommended.

It is extremely rare for me to get emotionally attached to fictional characters. As much as I enjoy reading, it's more a pastime than a driving need to dive back into the tale. Not so with this book. I adored the characters. I was entranced by Clare and Henry's relationship, and fascinated by Henry's genetic disorder that causes him to travel through time without any control over when or where he ends up. I cried - no, sobbed - at certain moments with a depth of feeling I haven't had for fiction in a very, very long time. I highly recommend this book.

Excellent book! I'm tempted to keep it for my own collection (but I won't).

The plot centers around a longterm relationship between a man and a woman who are very much in love. Henry is a Chicago librarian. Clare is an artist and heiress. But there's a problem: Henry is a time traveler. Some genetic anomaly causes him to repeatedly and unexpectedly be whisked back and forth to other time periods in his own life. So he and Clare are frequently out of synch. He meets her for the first time (from his perspective) when he's 28 and she's 20. But even while their relationship plays out in that "real" timeline, his time travel episodes constantly interrupt it. For instance, Suddenly, a 30-year-old Henry is brought to a time when Clare is only 8. Or a 19-year-old Henry might come forward to a time when Clare is middle-aged. And you thought YOUR relationship was complicated!

To the author's credit, this does not read like total weirdness. She plays down the fantastic element and focuses on the love between these two characters, a love that endures through any time shifts.

An imaginative, moving novel.
