A rich, exuberant story of life in Sydney's slums in the aftermath of WWII. Classic of Australian fiction.

Received with many thanks to peggysmum. Going onto the TBR pile.
This was a fantastic book, diminished somewhat (as they so frequently are these days) by my sporadic reading time. However, I really enjoyed the way the chapters were almost self-contained stories in themselves, so it was easy to dip in and out when I could, only finishing a chapter each time.
The story of the Darcy family was bittersweet - moments of joy and moments of tragedy, juxtaposed on a setting of poverty and hardship. A recommended read.
