The Restraint of Beasts
3 journalers for this copy...
I picked up this book from the Café Soihtu book exchange shelf. I have been planning to read the very same book in Finnish, but now I am going to read the English version instead. Perhaps I'll take my Finnish copy to Café Soihtu instead, as a little exchange gift. :-)

Given to me by Harmaja to read during lonely nights in Edinburgh. Thank you!
I'm thinking of reading this book as well.
A grim but funny tale of Scottish work ethics, or the lack thereof. I had some dealings with a very bad courier company last week, and the guys over there must have been something like Tam and Richie.
Mind you, the English foreman acting as narrator isn't much better than his charges, and the efficient Scottish guy Donald is pretty scary as well.
Highly recommended, will give to Erinne next.
Edited to add: I'm going to go and help build a fence in Crarae Gardens this weekend (the last weekend of June, 2008). I would LOVE to release this book about fence-building there at the garden! Unfortunately Eero hasn't read it yet, so I can't. Bugger.

To be read
The Restraint of Beasts was a positive surprise! It will be very hard to look at a Scottish fence without thinking of Tam and Ritchie and their trail of unhappy customers from now on.
A book to be recommended, very much so.
