Fascinating reading that really should be made compulsory for anyone who doubts the reality of natural selection. Dawkins not only explains how evolution works, but works his way through some of the major "controversies" of evolutionary theory of the time (this book is from 1986, so is starting to get a bit dated), both the ones that can be dimissed as rubbish, and the ones he considers to not be real controversies at all, but rather just expansions on Darwin's original ideas. The analogies he uses are mostly clear (although some of the computer examples sound a bit quaint now - especially his 8-bit computer and the amazing new "compact laser discs"), and he explains things well, so that a lot of the detail of natural selection makes more sense to me now than it has for years (it's a long time since my last high-school biology class!).
