Very old, very small, funny book about cats. The style of writing and drawings are a combination of Georges Simenon & Gerard Hoffnung.
Bought this book at the Buecher-Brocky in Basel, which KatColorado, Dolphus, Pfiffigunde2 & nice-cup-of-tea visited whilst we are at the Basel Meetup!

<-- Sushi (Katethebass's cat)
Extract from book
If you should recklessly decide to give your cat a bath, change your mind and don't. If you still insist on being hard-headed about the whole affair, get some soap designed to do the job, draw a tub of water brought carefully up to cat body temperature, a towel or tow, iodine, sutures, gauze (a bottle of brandy wouldn't be amiss) and a pair of chain mail gauntlets. You might also notify your next of kin if you are the type that really plans ahead.
First, you catch your cat and put it in the tub. Then you lather up the cat, if you are still able to, followed by a rinse, if the cat is still able to. Now you dry the cat ever so carefully to prevent any blood from dripping onto the clean fur. After this you can let the cat go and you could have a tot of that brandy. The cat will immediately find a good place to roll where he can get himself dirty from stem to stern, after which he will lick himself clean. This really gets a cat's tongue very tired, and many won't purr for many months.

Here's some cat fun! Thanks to Wistfuldragon & Jalna for these gems...
How to give a cat a pill!
And here's how you're supposed to do it!Cat Laws of Physics
Hamlet's Cat Soliloquy
PC (Personal Cat) Specifications
Why Cats Are Better Than Men...
A cat matures as it grows older.
Back hair on cats is cute.
It is legal in all states to neuter a cat.
Cats comfort you when you are sick.
When a cat sleeps all day it's natural, not annoying.
Unlike a man, a cat can fend for itself.
A cat is loyal.
Cats actually think with their heads.
"Meow" is never a lie.
They'll both stand outside your door and whine, but the cat will stop
when it gets in.
It's more amusing to watch a cat try and deal with a piece of tape
stuck on its paw than to watch a man do anything.
To buy a fancy dinner for a cat only costs 50 pence.
A cat's friend is less likely to be annoying.
Cats can't show love without meaning it.
Cats are always cute.
The only thing a cat expects you to "put out" is food, water, and a
clean litter box.

Thank you for the book - and the yummy chocolate! As there are four humans in the house, and the cat member of the family turns her nose up at chocolate, the puzzle of how to divide six pieces by four people was solved rather niftily by only two being present when the parcel was opened *g*.
(Of course the others will now read this journal entry - but too late, the chocolate is gone! Mwahahahaha!)
I love this book, and I'm sure Tiggerlily and Dragonet #2 will as well. Getting them to journal it will be more of a struggle, so despite their living in the same abode, it may be best to regard the book as being passed on by post, at least with regards to timescale.
Our feline companion is Jetta, a five year old tabby with white chest, tummy and paws. Just over a year ago she turned up in our road and persuaded the youngest Dragonet that she needed a home - and none of us have looked back since. It is true that there is the perfect cat for every family, and she is certainly ours.

Apologies everyone, the calculating cat is so calculating that it's currently hiding, but we're searching furiously for it :-) Helen /ncot

Read this one straight away... well, after my better half had read it. Sweet funny little book that seemed to have my cats summed up nicely. Will wait til we've both read the other one before sending off.

received (a few weeks ago actually - oops!) complete with great laminated cat bookmarks - well Ok the cat hasn't actually been laminated - oh you knwo what I mean. Thanks - looking forward to a fun read.
Received today and looking forward to reading it!!!
I had this book and the sequel as part of the ring, and they are really quick reads, since there are more pictures than text...
I must say that I was essentially disappointed, probably due to too high expectations based on another book of the same genre, i.e. the relationship between cat and man as seen by the cat...
Although quite readable, I didn't find the wit in this book as brilliant as expected, and thought that the drawings seemed sometimes rather unrelated to the text, although some of them were rather cute.
Sorry I haven't got anything more positive to offer on these...

Hi everyone! Lots of familiar names here! I got this in the mail today with a wonderful postcard from dutch-flybaby! The bookmarks are nice and still with the books, nice-cup-of-tea! Dutch-flybaby warned me not to let my cats near this book, so I am going to hide it well. I will read these when I finish the book I am in right now. (which should not be long as Mrfan03 has leg surgery tomorrow and it will be a llllooonnnngggg day! But, lots of reading to do! Thanks
This book had some very cute jokes, but it could get boring at times, also. It was a fast, funny read overall. Mrfan03 read it before surgery as we had a 3 hour wait! Thanks for sharing this!
Thank you for sharing this with me. Lucky Cat didn't find some parts humorous, but I found the quick read quite enjoyable.
I've not heard from DB, so I will send these to nicole when I get her address.
Looks entertaining!
Cute! Quick fun read...kept it at my desk at work to read bits here and there. Thanks!!
Sending to Lpree today!

This arrived in today's mail, along with "The Calculating Cat Returns". These look like great books, so I'm looking forward to reading them. I have one book I'm starting on now, and then will read these two.
A cute little book with funny cartoons. It was certainly a quick read and lots of fun. Thanks for sharing it!
I have already PMd the next person in line and will get this mailed out soon.

What a loverly surprise--this has been such awhile I'd totally forgotten about it! Any who, both books arrived just now (i'm sitting home waiting for a repairman--ugh), and look like a fun quick read. My calculating cat is sitting right here staring at birdies he wishes I'd let him out to disfeather...my other cat's ascaredy-cat.
this was a very bad winter for me; I've had this forever, and nice-cup-of-tea was both understanding and sweet. Thank you, "cuppa"! I'm traveling home, for a few short weeks, to a few of my favorite people and places, and have brought this along to post. Finally got to a PO and this enjoyable little kitty is now flying to elprice. Which, unfortunately does mean they are now separated; my first priority on my return will be to search for the "Return" and hopefully catch it up before this moves on. To those behind me, I do apologize. Thank you for sending this delight on a ring, nice-cup-of-tea, and I do apologize again for making (being) such a muddle.
I kind of glanced through the book, but since my brain is full of wedding plans (I get married in two weeks!) I'm finding it hard to concentrate on anything else. I'll pass it on as soon as I receive the next person's address.
Received today - perfect timing (because I finish exams tomorrow!) Looking forward to curling up with my calculating cat and reading it. Thanks all :)
So beautiful! My cat is very calculating indeed, just like the cats described in the book. Her reason for living seems to be "I want to be inside" when she's outside, and "I want to be outside" when she's inside. Thanks for sharing this, it was great.

Guess what? The original book has turned up at last, in my daughters' bedroom! It is slightly the worse for wear, but still eminently readable, so shall be released at some point to find further readers....hope this doesn't cause too much confusion!!!
