This book was wonderful! I absolutely loved it. It's the story of a painting - which may or may not be a Vermeer - that begins in the present day and works backward through time, tracing the ownership of the painting and the impact it had on each owner's life until we reach the point in time when it was actually painted. In the end, I really didn't care if the painting was a Vermeer or not. What mattered were the connections each owner had to a painting they loved. My favorite was the story of Aletta Pieters and Adriaan Kuypers, in 1717.

Beautifully written and very original, this was one of those books I just couldn't put down. In fact, I read it in a day.

I'll be mailing this to Apolonia in MA tomorrow. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

I decided to give up on Girl in Hyacinth Blue. I liked the concept, tracing a painting back though all its owners. However each owner was written more like a short story, which I don't really like. It wasn't a hard or horrible read, I just wasn't enjoying it. I am passing it on to Blacktaiwaz as part of a swap. I hope you find it more enjoyable than I did.
