Kokoda

I need to say at the onset that I am not typically a reader of historical or war books. I bought this book over the Easter holidays ('05) when I wasn't feeling too well. For a moment I thought I should buy this book and read it believing "I would be a better person for having read it" and emotionally prepared myself for reading about a significant event in Australian history that claimed so many young lives. I was surprised to find my emotional reaction was not so much grief but anger and frustration at the heirarchy who just go it so wrong in so many ways with this campaign during World War II. I knew little about Kokoda before I started and must say I was right, I am a better person for having read it...more informed, understanding and sympathetic. This was also one of those reads where you marvel at the research behind the book - Peter Fitzsimons has masterfully told the stories of Kokoda, there is no need to create any fiction. I hope you gain from reading this book, as I have.
Given to a friend (LF) to read.

LF used a quote from this (page 319 I believe) at a Principal's Regional Conference last week in her opening speech. Very captivating and thought provoking. She has now given the book to a colleague (IG).
Now back with me. Going to give to Luc.
