Caught at the Nottingham meet. I've read a review somewhere that this book is a good read. Any book that has 'secrets' in it has got my attention.

This is a really original book. It has several parts that are connected, set in East Africa just before the war it follows the diary of Alfred Corbin who is sent to administrate in a tiny town called Kikono, at the edge of the British Empire and near the German border with East Africa.

The diary ends, but the story doesnt, the 2nd part of the story narrates what happens in the intervening years, THe diary has a hold on one of the Indian English teachers who comes across it in 1988. THe characters are woven through the story like a tapestry.

Will you find out the secrets or will they be forever hidden? Morality, justice, the healing quality of time, these are themes that are raised by the story.

I felt as though i had been tramsported to the heat and dust of Tanzania before its Independence. Its a time when Britain was still a major strength in the world. but things do change......

Handed over to a lady looking at books in the World of News shop in the departures lounge. Its next to Starbucks and the nearest gate is GATE 16.

A good place to hand over books as there is always somebody reading and maybe somebody who wants to read?!

Hopefully a Journal Entry will be made for this book. Hope you enjoy it.
