ALA Best Book for Young Adults

During the summer of 1793, Mattie Cook lives above the family coffee shop with her widowed mother and grandfather. Mattie spends her days avoiding chores and making plans to turn the family business into the finest Philadelphia has ever seen. But then the fever breaks out. Disease sweeps the streets, destroying everything in its path and turning Mattie's world upside down. At her feverish mother's insistence, Mattie flees the city with her grandfather. But she soon discovers that the sickness is everywhere, and Mattie must learn quickly how to survive in a city turned frantic with disease.

Most excellant read. I couldn't imagine going through what Mattie did. The yellow fever killed so many but Mattie survived and became a woman because of it.

Picked up today from the post office. Thank you Cheesy for offering this in the ALS: it looks great!

I have to agree with the other 2 readers: an amazing book! I was down with the flu today so this look liked the perfect read. Mattie was a lovely character and I think that the ending of the book was perfect.
Hope to find another enthusiastic reader for this book soon.

I finally had a chance to bump this book to the top of my TBR - it's on the wishlist of my partner for the Boxing Day Exchange!

I read this book yesterday and found it to be a quick, but satisfying read.
Anderson does a wonderful job evoking post-Independence Philadelphia. Beyond that, the book is well-plotted and filled with fullbodied, believable characters. Written for the young adult audience, the book is nevertheless a good read adults. I have no doubt that the fact that teens will have no problem relating to Anderson's spunky protagonist is part of the reason why Fever 1793 has won so many awards and honors.

I'm setting it aside for my Boxing Day partner. It will go out in my package to her in the beginning of December.

This came in my Boxing Day package from Morsie, and due to holiday crazyness I've just been able to journal it now.

This ended up being one of the last books that I read in 2006. I loved how enthralling the story was and found it to fly by much to quickly as I finished the book off in an evening.

This was definatly a quick, but good read and Im going to look forwards to tracking down a copy of Speak by the author.
