Purchased with great glee, and thrown on the *available* pile:
Have you ever happened upon a book that had all the elements you would choose if you were looking for the *ideal* book for you to read, only to find nothing but a profound disappointment- all the sharper for the anticipation once felt.
Such was my experience with Pinkerton's Sister. This book had everything. It is set in Victorian>Edwardian NY (my very favorite time period), and it has a heroine drunk on literature. References to dozens of notable books enhance every page.

So what went wrong?

The author forgot just one thing- a plot.

Stream of consciousness is all very well, but it's been done. I already learned to hate Virginia Woolfe and James Joyce for this- I thought we were through with it.

I'm so sorry to give this book such a low grade, but, hey, it could have been just great and it isn't.
