Mirror Mirror : A Novel
6 journalers for this copy...
From the back cover:
"The world was called Montefiore, as far as she knew, and from her aerie on every side all the world descended.
The year is 1502, and seven-year-old Bianca de Nevada lives perched high above the rolling hills and valleys of Tuscany and Umbria at Montefiore, the farm of her beloved father. Don Vicente. There she spends here days cosseted by Primavera Vecchia, the earthy cook, and Fra Ludovico, a priest who tends to their souls between bites of ham and sips of wine.
But one day a noble entourage makes its way up the winding slopes to the farm--and the world comes to Montefiore. In the presence of Cesare Borgia and his sister, the lovely and vain Lucrezia--decadent children of a wicked pope--no one can claim innocence for very long.
When Borgia sends Don Vicente on a years-long quest to reclaim a relic of the original Tree of Knowledge, he leaves Bianca under the care--so to speak--of Lucrezia. She plots a dire fare for the young girl in the woods below the farm, but in the dark forest there can be found salvation as well...."

Not to worry, the book is here safe and sound with me! :) As for the shoes, I think it's gonna be hard to find something that fits, LOL. Also, there was a postcard included with the book, is it like a makeshift bookmark or should everyone scribble a little something on it? Hee hee.... Anyways, thanks for this one, I'm hoping I fare better with this one than I did with Wicked. Will post again and send it on when I'm finished with the book :)

Yikes, strike 2 for me with Gregory Maguire. I really don't understand why I can't get into his books. I am always intrigued when I read the back covers, but when I actually start reading, I don't really enjoy the story that much. It's quite a shame though, as I do think it's an interesting take on a well-loved tale, as with his other books. Well, I'm going to give it one more shot with 'Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister', if it's strike 3, I think I will officially give up on Gregory Maguire. Thanks MadamMuck for the opportunity though, to read this book, so thank you for ringing it! :)
Mailed out to puppymummy this morning, hopefully it will get there first thing Monday or Tuesday.

It took a bit longer than that, but it is here - along with another FOUR! I am a little shocked, as some I wasn't expecting just yet - but no time to journal, must read! I will get through it as quickly as I can, but please don't expect miracles....
This is the third book in a row for me set in Europe in the 1500s - I've started learning about history! I'm going to do some more reading about this period in time as soon as I finish all of the bookrings here....
I really enjoyed this one, and it made me want to learn more about the truth of the Borgias. However I enjoyed Confessions more - some of the twists in the story to ensure that it resembled the fairy tale seemed a little more contrived in this story, Confessions had more of a natural flow to it. And the dwarves were very weird! Overall I like his stories a lot.
I PM'd 5478 a few days ago, as soon as I receive an address this will be in the mail.
Edited to add - posted 31st Oct.

Have been trying to get my hands on this for a while, I finally saw it at a book store on Saturday, but something made me put it down. I had forgotten I had joined this book ring, so I'm pleased I trusted my instincts and didn't buy it! Can't wait to get started on it, but like leeny37 I'm not sure if I'll get into it or not. Thanks puppymummy for sending it on :)
arrived today. Thank you very much for sharing. I can't wait to read this one. I absolutely loved Wicked, so I can't wait.
I had a lot of trouble getting in to this book and I just could not finish it.
It will be posted to tantan tomorrow.
Sorry I took so long.

Sorry I took so long.
Received today - thanks Mistlerose. I have a few in front of it, but as I'm last on the list I hope nobody minds if I hang on to it for a while.

Edit May 30th, 2006: I'll be starting this one either tonight of tomorrow. Hopefully it shouldn't take me too long to read.

This did take me awhile to get through as I seemed to read it in fits and bursts. Sometimes I could hardly wait to get back to it, and other times I really didn't feel like picking it up. This was my second Maguire book (Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister being the first), and I'm looking forward to more. Like Confessions... this was an intriguing take on a fairy tale, and I love learning about the time in history in which Maguire sets these stories.
Thanks for a great read, MadamMuck. The book will be heading home to you soon.
