Mom was on a cleaning spree and sent this home with me. It's a wonder it was still there; I set my books free even when I was young! I read this again and quickly remembered why I loved it. It touched my heart, in a very different way, as an adult. It made me miss my childhood dogs. It made me miss my Dad, who grew up in MO. The ending made me ball like a baby, despite my very stoic nature! This is an interesting book for young and old alike.
The story of a poor, back-woods, farm boy saving his own money to buy 2 hound dogs. He raises and trains two of the finest hunting dogs, and dreams of taking them to a competitive hunt. It is a story of the bond between human and dog, as well as the love and understanding of family. Get your tissues out for the ending...this is the same author that wrote OLD YELLER!
