I've wanted this for ages and finally gave in on a brief stop at Barnes & Noble. Loved the Secret Life of Bees, so I'm hoping this is as good.

I really wanted to like this and I did, up to a point. I could definitely relate to Jessie's emotions surrounding her married life and where she was at that stage in her life. But her father's past wasn't really surprising, and by the end I didn't really care too much for Jessie and mostly just felt bad for Hugh. I did like her mom, though, and the other women on the island.

My daughter gave me this book to read and I will return it to her to pass on. I had read The Secret Life of Bees and enjoyed it, so she thought I'd enjoy this one too. It was a good read and I'm sure many women can relate to the emotions that Jessie expressed, although I think she could have given more of an explanation about how she felt to her family before she distanced herself from them. Thanks for sharing the book.

I must apologize for hoarding this book for 10 years!!! Was cleaning out my bookshelves and came across it today. I feel so bad that it's been sitting here for so long and I never finished reading it. I did start it years ago but just wasn't that into the story, put it down and never picked it back up. I am going to add it to the free book box in my neighborhood laundry where I'm sure someone will grab it.
