Gemma Bovery

A very interesting twist on Madame Bovery. In this story, a young woman moves to France with her husband, sheds poundage, gets a French lover, and has the local bread baker seeing similarities between Gemma, and the Emma of literary fame.
This was very entertaining. Too bad it is an expensive book. (Hardcover @$19.95) For $20, I like a book to last me a few days.
;^)
***Willing to send to someone I know.

I am back home from vacation, after having received this at the Indian Restaurant mini-meet-up. I am ready to dive in.
10/3/5 - I forgot to add to my entry once I finished it. I really enjoyed it. Who hasn't thought of chucking it all over and moving to rural France? I've never read Emma Bovary, but maybe now I will. I liked the pencil drawings; I think Simmonds has a nice touch. I also liked the realistic personalities - nobody was all good or bad, but a blend.

It was so nice to meet up with you and Max -- and share books. Hopefully, we'll be able to do it again. (Here's to dreaming.)
