Breathing Lessons
7 journalers for this copy...
One of my favorite authors. I found this copy on the Friends of the Library shelf at the Bucks County Free Library. Will read and release.
I finished this awhile ago but forgot to journal it.
This is Anne Tyler's Pulitzer Prize winning novel of family dysfunction. Not exactly a new theme with her. She continues to be one of my favorite writers but I can't really say why this novel is deemed a standout in her work. I didn't find the characters as sympathetic as I usually do - maybe that was her point. The miscommunication theme was just tiring by the end. I just wanted the characters to tell the unvarnished truth and listen closely to one another.
I offered this on BookRelay where is was taken by tiatia. In the mail to her on 5 July.
Received today in my very happy mailbox! Thank you very much.
The thin line between a real life and the spin Maggie choses to put on it. Which is the more real? Tyler's attention to detail, while sometimes tedious also glorifies the details that make up a life. An interesting read. Thanks for sharing.
Received from tiatia from the "Element-ary, My Dear Relay on bookrelay. I am looking forward to reading it.

This arrived home today in my Prize Winner bookbox. Mom and I had tried to read it years ago, and sent it off on a wild release with fabulous AF success:

We will either repeat that process with this book or include it in a future version of this box (since I've already had a request from another member who'd like to play again).
