Those Who Save Us

This caught my eye as I was browsing recently...I like all novels set in WWI or II.... this is different in that it focuses on German citizens who lived through the WWII years, discovered much after the fact by a little girl only three when her mother left Germany to live in America. It is "a profound exploration of what we endure to survive and the legacy of shame."
I forgot to take this off my wish list and so received another copy as an RABCK in the mail!!! So it is time for me to send this along to a new reader, and I will read my "newest" copy!
Putting in the mail for my great bookcrossing friend Valpete in California! Happy reading!
Thanks so much! I look forward to reading it.
This has languished far too long on my TBR bookshelf. I'm sending it along to another BCer with it on her Wishlist.
How delightful to find not one, but two books in a RABCK package! Thanks so much valpete, this has turned out to be an excellent Monday evening!
I have picked this book up and put it down again many times since I first started it in the beginning of December, and I just cannot get into it. I gave it 134 pages before finally giving up. :(
In the spirit in which it was sent to me, I will find another to RABCK it to. Perhaps they will enjoy it a little more!
EDIT: Placed in the General Lit VBB

Mailed off to wildflower37, as a choice from the General Lit VBB.
This book title has crossed my path many times - on recommendation lists, book sales, etc. Seems like an interesting story. Thanks for sharing, cherryj!
Intense, haunting...took me longer than usual to read, perhaps due to the nature of the story. Reminds me a bit of City Of Women about how the women in Europe found ways a to survive the cold and hunger. Hard to imagine their lives but this novel makes that possible.
