The Mermaid Chair: A Novel

Plan to read soon.
I don't think I enjoyed this quite as much as The Secret Life of Bees, but it was very good nonetheless.
Although the ending could be guessed from the way it started, the depiction of the lives of people in the Coastal Carolina area was very interesting.

Thanks so much for sending this book in my direction. It has been so long since I read The Life of Bees, I think I will have to read that one over again before I read the second one. We'll see. Nonetheless, this book is coming up very soon on my reading list. :0) TBR.
Sue Monk Kidd has a way of creating magical settings in her books. The island was a place where Jessie escaped in order to find herself. It was the only spot in the world where she felt safe enough to explore herself and her life. In that respect, it reminded me of The Secret Life of Bees where Lily escaped to the honey farm in order to find herself. I also noticed that symbolism played an important part in this book of Kidd's as well. Just like The Lady of Chains in The Secret Life of Bees, the Mermaid Chair represented something important to each and every character in this book. I'm glad I finally picked up The Mermaid Chair -- it had been sitting in my pile to read for a long time. Now I can pass it on! Thanks for sending it my way John!
I shipped this book off to spaniellove. Merry Christmas! I hope you enjoy the read - I thought it was good!
