I really, really liked this book. I am not usually this pleased with books put out by Avon Trade, they have a tendency to either let people who have never read the book write the back copy or else they just lie to make it sound more interesting than it is.. Not so in this case.
This is a book about a woman, I can sympathize with.. a flat chested woman.. not only is she flat chested but she is diminutive in stature as well, she is rail.. and her father is a plastic surgeon.. She has so far resisted the lure of getting a boob job, as well as being fixed up with her fathers partners.. She is in a committed (live-in) relationship with her boss Adam until the morning of her 30th birthday when she wakes up to find that not only is she not getting the promotion he had promised her, but that he has taken credit for her work and that he has asked an older and chestier woman to marry him. To make matters worse, the entire office knows about it.. But with her requisite chick lit set of friends she will make it through.. Tish an interior designer pining after the cafe owner she's admired from afar for three years, Rachel a gorgeous scientist who dubs Adam the "Ionic Bonding Bastard" and has a tendency to rant and rave. Committed boyfriends David and Sylvester who own the restaurant where they meet every Sunday afternoon and married Katy and Tom who seem to have it all. I have to say after reading this book, I wish I had friends like Emma's what a great bunch.
Not to mention to new love interest is quite a hottie.. oh but aren't they always..oh to have the problems of a chick lit heroine...
This one will be going into one of my chick lit bookboxes

Putting in my chick lit bookbox for Yahoo Bookbox group
Thanks for granting another wish, Booknose! I look forward to this one!
I agree with Booknose, to have the problems of a chick lit heroine! I had a little bit more difficulty relating to Emmeline. I am anything but skinny and flat chested. That having been said, the skinny and flat chested thing kept being referred to in the novel but the whole point is that neither one of those things defined Emmeline. That her person was so much more than a small flatchested 30 year old. I thought it took an awful long time to get to the point where the Jack storyline seemed to emerge. For the longest time I just wasn't sure where this one was going. I did know that we couldn't possibly have Adam and Emma reunite because Adam was an idiot. I was more interested in Tish and Rufus because Cunnah seemed to focus on them for awhile and once Jack was introducted she sort of dropped Tish and Rufus which was a bummer because I was emotionally invested in their courtship. It all came together in the end and I really liked this cast of characters.
One other aside, I find it hard to believe that Hoboken is really as "cool" as it was made out to be. I live in the NYC area and no where in New Jersey is cool! *eg* (Just kidding!)

On its way to eriko1908 as part of a virtual bookbox.
Grabbed this one out of the Virtual CLBB - will be read soon!
This one was a bit out there for me...I had trouble getting beyond Emma and her problem of being small-chested...I just wanted to shout at her to "GET ON WITH IT!!!"
Holding this one for the next round of the CLVBB...
