Dit boek is nu op weg naar skoopmanschap.
just received it, thanks. will read as soon as I get the time for it ;)
Hokay,
It is a funny book, but it's more of an 'in-betweener' than a full book of it's own. There's some funny situations in this book, but that is maybe the problem. It's more of a chain of funny events and situations, than a full funny book. It's not the solid book with the good storyline that I'm used to of Grisham.
That said, I did enjoy it.

I usually don't read Grisham, and was surprised he wrote a book with a theme like this. It was amusing, but I agree with Skoopmanschap about the quality of the story. I must admit I was a bit surprised by the last three chapters. A very American story, from my point of view. Will forward it to Scooter32 now.
I've received it a couple of days ago.
Next week I will start reading......I'll let you know how I felt about it!

Leest niet echt lekker weg. Kan ook zijn omdat ik niet in 'christmas' stemming was....

The mail just came and in it was this book. Thanks for mailing it scooter32! It may be a while before I get to reading this book as my Mount-bookring is growing and I'm not reading so fast these days. But I will read it for sure :-)

The more I read of this booklet, the more I had the feeling I was 'reading a movie'. I could see things happening in my mind's eye. However, this is exactly the reason I prefer books over movies. Movies are nice for an hour or two (like this book), but a book fills in all the details a movie can not show, more depth. A book is (supposed to be) a more elaborate experience for me. Back to the book: it was a mildly entertaining story, the usual unrealistic christmasmovie story. I wonder; was the movie there first or the book? It reads like a movie and that is what I find interesting about this book. If anything I would tell people to read this book because of this odd feeling of 'reading a movie'.
I'm sending the book on its way. thanks for sharing draakje!

It's not yet Xmastime, but we will try. I have already spotted the first trees and lights, so.
Thank you for sending it, Dutch-Flybaby, and thank you for the nice card. And Draakje: the book will be home at Christmas :-) to variate on a wellknown song.

This book could have been about 150 pages thinner. It could have helped. Now Luther and Nora annoyed me tremendously. Can't you skip X-mas without being unfriendly? It was all so grim. And moralistic. Well. What's the effect? I am more than ever in the mood for a nice x-mas with my love (no family or whatsoever). The book returns to Draakje.
Weer terug op de basis en meteen weer doorgegeven aan mijn dochter (maantje)

A book about christmas received as a saint nicolaspresent. Well, I truly enjoy Christmas and just yesterday we were talking about what we want to do with Christmas, so this book is going to be a great pleasure. Thank you, mister saint Nicolas!
The book is now on it's way to someone, from Secret Santa. i hope you'll enjoy the book! It was a typical American Christmas story. I could imagine all the celebration taking place. I love those kind of Chrisstmasses. I wish I could spend Christmas in America, just for those Christmasses.
From your Secret Santa!
Arrived today from dutch-book, my Secret Santa. Looks nice, but as I also got the DVD in the same parcel it's hard to decide which I'll take first... Oh, these Big Questions in life...
Finally! I've promised the book to a Finnish BC Chrismas Calendar - every day until the 24th Dec a new hatch of the calendar opens with somebody writing a line or two from a Christmas themed book they are willing to send to the winner of the day. Those who feel they want to take part, judging by those few lines, will do so on the thread and the sender will pick up the winner. Great fun and very popular on the Finnish forum. The sender is supposed to send the book within a day or two.
About the book: A quick read and a very American story. I like Christmas preparations, but if they were compulsory or done like the arms race or judged by a committee I'd hate them. I didn't like the first part of the book and I didn't really see the surprise coming, but then the story turned to the better. And yes, like somebody said, the book read like a screen script and sure enough, it was made to a film (the DVD left last week to Crhemajora as a part of my Secret Angels' Christmas Exchange Game). Not quite like The Firm or The Pelican Brief or the "typical" Grishams.
Hopefully the winner of the book will like it and I'm sure he or she will appreciate the traditional Finnish x-mas yet a bit more...
