6 journalers for this copy...
I enjoyed this one. It's good for reading in small sections, like on the subway to work. :)
Sending this book to a fellow Bookcrosser. Hope you enjoy it!
Received from ekgv414 (Thanks!)
Will journal & rate when i've read it :o)
Chronicles the goings-on in a large metropolitan high school, detailing the experiences of an idealistic first-year teacher who is plagued by difficulties arising from an overwhelming bureaucracy, inadequate facilities, and some unforgettable students.
I spent 2 hours on this book today.... and i'm afraid i've had to give up :o( I'm just not getting on with the style of it. I've never come across this style before and it's putting me right off! The introduction was interesting and i love the title, but i'm afraid i'm gunna have to pass this one on, not finished.
I've rated this book as a 5, but i dont think it's the books fault..... it was the reader!

Received the book today, Caffcaff. Thank you.
This book was different, I must say. It was funny, and I really got a kick out of the intra-school communications. It is now going to New Zealand in an M- bag.
I got this box of books today. Since it was the last set I was waiting on, the Mbag (or perhaps a quicker method) will be going out to New Zealand on Monday.

Sending in an M-bag to FutureCat for the New Zealand Convention.
A huge sack of books arrived today - too late for the convention, unfortunately, but they'll still be greatly appreciated by the Christchurch Bookcrossers, and a few might end up travelling over to Australia for the Brisbane convention in June.
One more that just has to go in my TBR pile (I used to be a high school teacher, so this will be a really interesting read for me, comparing the NZ and US education experience)
Many thanks lovemylife, and nekki!

What a lovely book! I really enjoyed reading it - it brought back both the pain and joy of teaching teenagers (and reminded me why I gave it up!) I was amazed how, despite my teaching experience being 30 years and thousands of miles removed from Kaufman's, in a completely different education system, I still recognised so many of the people and situations she illustrates (even the way the students wrote seemed familiar) - it just shows you that there are some universals in life. I was impressed too with the way that Kaufman manages to simultaneously make you laugh at her characters while keeping them (even the worst) completely sympathetic - there's nothing cruel in her humour.
There's a couple of other Christchurch bookcrossers who have experienced life at the chalk-face, so I'll take this to the next meetup and see if one of them wants to read it next.
