I saw a bunch of release alerts from Ghost_Dog, and had to scamper out and go hunting. I love the "Brother Cadfael" books, and have BookCrossed several, including several copies of A Morbid Taste For Bones, the first book in the series. This is one that I read long ago but didn't have a BC copy, so I was pleased to find it - all the more so as it's a well-traveled copy!

I got this paperback at a local thrift shop, for another release copy.

This is the second in the series of historical mysteries set in 12th-century England and Wales. Cadfael's a monk with an action-packed past, who's settling into late middle age as the herbalist of his order - but as it happens, he's going to pick up a second vocation as part-time sleuth and forensic chemist.

The books tend to feature a mix of historical detail (political and social), bits about daily life at that time and place, a mystery or two, and at least one romance - though not always the one you think it will be at the beginning of the tale. This one features Hugh Beringar, one of my favorite characters, and shows how he became sheriff - after helping Cadfael solve the puzzle of the extra body found among 90-odd executed traitors...

See more on the TV Tropes page.

[I can recommend the TV mini-series adaptations, too.]

I left this book in this new-to-me Little Free Library; hope someone enjoys it! (The LFL is painted with a scene from The Snowy Day, and is nestled under a tree with a handy bench nearby. I even saw some rabbits on a neighbor's lawn; very charming!)

I found this in my Little Free Library, and it was the first Book Crossing book I had seen. I meant to read it, but it’s not my favorite genre, and it sat in my pile for a bit. I’m going to deliver it to a new LFL to see if someone else would find it and read it. Thank you for sharing!
