Kind of a neat idea, very idealistic but then I tend to be an optimistic idealist! Just a light enjoyable read. Don't think I'd bother to see the movie. BTW it looks like, from the movie pics on the cover, that in the movie Rueben is neither disfigured or black?

Just finished reading it. The story in the novel is much, much better than what they did with it in the movie. Not to mention they totally changed the race and the reason for the disfigurement and the name of the male teacher...go figure! The ending is slightly different, although the outcome is the same. I enjoyed the book much more than the movie, and I could not see Kevin Spacey in the role while I was reading it. He just didn't "fit"....which is maybe why they changed so much..other than his skin colour.

This is promised to a friend and then another BC'er after her.

Just got back from my friend - who does not want to join bookcrossing. I can't remember who the other bc'er was who wanted this next was - it was so long ago....so....I'm going to offer it to some Toronto BC'ers and if none of them want it, then I'll take it to the next Toronto meet up.

What a nice, uplifting, feel good novel!!! I really enjoyed the writing style. Arlene McKinney should be one proud mother, I know I would be. It is so interesting to remember how "good" children think people and the world can be!!

I had just had a conversation with a friend, in which she explained that she and her mother had watched the movie the night before--and found it very touching.I explained to my friend that I was going for a walk and a coffe at Shananigan's. I sat at a table that I never sit at--I don't like the location of it. I brought a crossword puzzle with me to do, my usual routine. I needed a magazine/book to support the newspaper crossword puzzle that I was doing. I looked on the shelf beside me and there was a pocket book--"Pay It Forward". It gave me the shivers. I know that I must buy this book and read it. I explained this to my friend, and also that I intend to incorporate the spiritual principle of "paying it forward" in my life.I know that this is what I am meant to do at this time in my life.
